The Impacts of Wildfire on Washington's Popular Climbing Areas
The Impacts of Wildfire on Washington's Popular Climbing Areas
In the fall of 2024, I took Dr. Michael Medler's Pyrogeography course, during which we developed a final project throughout the quarter. This resulted in the creation of my senior research project, entitled "The Impacts of Wildfire on Washington's Popular Climbing Areas." I continued to work on this project independently throughout winter quarter, the last of my undergrad. Very little research exists on this topic, and my report is very likely one of the firsts of its kind. The goal of my research was to provide information to the climbing community, local climbing organizations such as the Washington Climber's Coalition, and land managers, including Access Fund and state and government agencies, to better improve decision making surrounding the issue.
